Grigore Vieru ( February 14 , 1935 –) is a Moldovan poet and writer mostly known for his poems and books for children.He was born in the village of Pererâta, Hotin County, then part of Romania . His parents, Pavel and Eudochia Vieru ( née Didic) were engaged in farming.In 1957 he marked his publishing debut with a poems booklet for children. Click here for more... from wikepedia. |

In 1958 Mr. Vieru graduated the Ion Creanga Chisinau Pedagogical Institute, with a license in History and Philology;
1959 – Editor of Nistru magazine, published by the Moldavian Writer Union;
1960 – 1963 Editor in chief, Cartea Moldoveneasca publishing house;
1967 – The volume Poetry for readers of all ages (published in 1965) is awarded the Moldavian Prize for Youth Literature;
1968 – Due to the publication of the Men of Moldova poem, the issue of Nistru magazine is banned by the censorship;
1968 – the volume Your name become part of the contemporary literature curricula in the Moldavian universities;
1973 – first visit to Romania (“If somebody dreamed of getting to the outer space, my hole life I dreamed of crossing the Prut River.”)
1974, 1977 – invited by the president of the Romanian Writer Union, Mr. Vieru visits Bucharest, Constanta, Iasi, and cities in Transylvania region;
1978 – Junimea publishing house prints The Friday Star , the first volume of Mr. Vieru published in Romania;
1989 – elected member of the Parliament; involved in getting closer Romania and Moldova;
1990 – Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy;
1992 – The Romanian Academy recommended Mr. Vieru for the Nobel Prize for Peace;
1995 – Member of the Board of the Romanian National Society for Radio;
1996 – winner of several Romanian literary awards;
2000 – awarded the Eminescu Medal by the Romanian Government.
Married with Raisa Vieru since 1959; 2 boys, Teodor and Calin.
